English assignment/Poem

Ethan   English 11                                                                                                      “The Last Stormlord’

Liquid Gold

Water,
the nourishment of all life,
but its presence so little,
the whole day consists of searching for your next drink,
many die in the search for water,
even the rich,
spoiled and pampered as they are,
are not safe from dehydration,
they can only hope there wealth can keep them alive,
while the poor survive off the dew of the morning if they have to,
yet there is a hope among the wasteland,
people who can summon the liquid gold at will,
yet one lives supplying the land,
but such is extremely difficult,
age has taken him to the point of no return,
and soon he shall pass,
so the search begins,
 for the lands savior.

The big issue in the book I am reading is the only stormlord is getting very old and does not have the energy to bring enough water to the land and after he dyes then they have no water. So he sends out search parties throughout the whole land to try and find someone with the potential to supply the dying land with water before it’s too late. I incorporated this idea into the poem above by showing the lands situation and how they survive and the material importance of water. The importance of a stormlord is above anything else in the land and in the future of the book people may take advantage of that.

Copyright Control

"Rip" A Remix Manifesto is a film is all about a young musician "Girl Talk" who makes music which includes mash ups of other famous authors such as journey and is using part of there songs in his music without the the bands permission but should he have to if hes only using small parts. The author of this film is what I believe is trying to show people what its like in today's world and how copyright rules over the music industry and many other smaller cases. I think the author is trying to change that and make our creative ideas more free and less trapped in the cage of copyright so we can use and change parts of previously released songs without the bands permission.

At this point the small bands such as "Girl Talk" are being beaten up by the big corporations and many people believe the big corporations have all control over anybodies use of there song even if small sections or even notes are used without there permission. But in all schemes of things many of today's greatest hits are just copies of other songs changed up to the artists own creative idea but isn't that many small bands doing there taking small parts of older songs and twisting them to work with there own ideas. I am a huge music fan which many of my favorite artists are re-mixers using parts of other songs which sound completely on there own level and that is not copying that is artists molding something well known into a new and improved sound.

I totally understand if someone was using an artists full song for profit but if its is mix and mashed with other material the people are there for everything so the government and companies should be less uptight about small things like that and more on full copying of songs not mash ups. Many people have had there favorite band sued for large sums of money and I am pretty sure they are not that happy and if that keeps going into the future I can sure as heck bet there will be riots. In the end the whole copyright problem is not as big as the companies make them out to be and they should relax and maybe enjoy some of the magic create from bits and pieces. An
